Men's Cross Country Picked Third in Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte, N.C.- The Big South Conference office announced Wednesday (August 16) that Coastal Carolina University's men's cross country team has been chosen third in the Big South Conference preseason poll, as voted by the League's Head Cross Country Coaches and Sports Information Directors.

The Chanticleers received 126 points out of a possible 162. The favorite in the poll was Liberty receiving 17 first-place votes and 161 points.

"Liberty is certainly the favorite at this point, head coach Jeff Jacobs said. They return four runners who were in the top 10 last year, however I feel that we will have a very competitive squad this year in the Big South. VMI and High Point will be strong again as well. I believe the guys will use the poll as motivation to prove they can finish higher than this pre-season ranking."

The Chanticleers open their season on Friday, September 1 at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C., at 5 p.m.
