MOUNT OLIVE, N.C- Coastal Carolina junior Kyle Kling was crowned the champion of the Mount Olive Cross Country Invitational held at Mount Olive College's Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.
Kling won the 5k meet with ease finishing the course in 15:10, a full eight seconds ahead of his nearest competition. The time was Kling's 5k career personal best. With the win, Kling continued his streak of leading the Chants across the finish line in each meet this season.
The Chants finished tied for fourth overall as a team with Christopher Newport University tallying 145 points. Mount Olive claimed the team victory finishing with 35 points followed by UNC Wilmington with 49. The University of Mary Washington (69 points), Coastal Carolina and Christopher Newport rounded out the top five in the eight team field.
Finishing second for the Chanticleers in 16:50 was John Heron, good for 30th place in the 82 competitor field. Spencer Lange established a new personal record as he crossed the line in 17:12 to finish 41st followed closely by Andre Enoch in 47th turning in a time of 17:21. Stevie Brunson, freshman on the Chants track team, competed in his first collegiate cross country meet; finishing the course in 20:53.
The Chanticleers will return to the course on Oct. 30 as the team heads to the Big South Championship meet in Blacksburg, Va. hosted by Radford.
