CONWAY -- The Coastal Carolina men's cross country team turned in a fourth place finish at the 8k CCU Invitational/Big South Preview held on the grounds of the Quail Creek Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Liberty won the event with a team score of 25. High Point finished second with 40 points followed by Campbell (88) and Coastal Carolina (124). Radford rounded out the top five with 125 total team points. Liberty's Zac Edwards won the individual title with a time of 24:42.
Evan Niciphor was the top placing Chanticleer as he placed ninth with a time of 25:47. Fellow freshman and winner of the season opening Gamecock Open, Joseph Keitt, was the second Coastal finisher in 19 with a 26:20. Cameron Wells finished 32 overall as he crossed the finish line in 27:13. Tyler Cummings, a freshman, and Rob Delviscio concluded the Coastal scoring with times of 27:34 and 28:00 to place 42 and 47, respectively.
Prior to the start of the meet, a moment of silence was held in memory of Terah Kipchiris, a Hall of Fame cross country and track & field performer while with the Chanticleers from 2002-05. Kipchiris was involved in a serious auto accident on July 9, 2011, in Kansas City, Kan., and had been in a coma, listed in critical condition, until his passing on Aug. 31.
Coastal will return to action at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Sept. 30.
