Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at CCU Invitational
CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina men's cross country team finished third at the 6th Annual Coastal Carolina Cross Country meet with a team score of 94. Liberty won the meet with a score of 25 followed by UNC Wilmington with 56 and Coastal. Wingate and USC Beaufort filled the fourth and fifth positions with scores of 123 and 136 respectively.
The meet was won by Liberty's All-America performer Evans Kigen with a new course record time of 18:30.80.
Coastal was led by junior Kyle Kling, who also bested the previous course record of 19:14, with a fourth place time of 19:11.90.
"Kyle (Kling) ran a great race despite not being at 100 percent health," said head coach Jeff Jacobs. "This was a tough field that featured an All-American and he was able to finish in the top five."
Rob Delviscio finished the meet in 13th with a time of 20:14.20. Finishing closely behind Delviscio was John Heron with a 20:20.40 good for 18th place. Freshmen Cameron Wells crossed the finishing stripe in 22nd (20:24.90) and Andre Enoch turned in a time of 21:51.00 to place 41st in the field of 63.
Also competing for the Chants were sophomore Spencer Lange and junior Christian Mendez with times of 22:05.10 and 23:45.90 respectively.
"Overall we ran fairly well considering the humid condition and the strong field of competition," said Jacobs. "We still have a good amount of work to do to get where we want to be as a team."
The Chanticleers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 as they take part in the Big South Preview meet in Radford Va.
