CONWAY- The Coastal Carolina track & field teams have spent the fall mentoring local students form Pee Dee Elementary School as part of the Run, Jump, and Throw with the Chants program.
Run, Jump and Throw with the Chants is a mentorship with Pee Dee Elementary School in Conway. Coastal Carolina University men's and women's track & field athletes demonstrated and taught basic track and field skills, and emphasized making healthy lifestyle choices to the local elementary school students. Coastal track & field athletes traveled twice to Pee Dee Elementary (October 7 and 21) and the elementary school students came to the University campus on Thursday, November 18.
"Our athletes have thoroughly enjoyed our partnership with Pee Dee Elementary School with the Run. Jump, and Throw with the Chants Program," said women's head coach Alan Connie. "It is wonderful to see the way our student athletes have interacted with the children and they have received as much as they have given. We thank Ms. Emma Savage Davis for providing this opportunity for us again this year."
"This mentorship has been a great opportunity for our student-athletes to get involved in the local community," said men's head coach Jeff Jacobs. "Our athletes have taken a very active roll in creating and implementing the program for the Pee Dee students, so it has been both a valuable and extremely practical learning experience for them. The elementary students have really enjoyed the programs, it has been so nice to see how excited they are when we arrive at their campus or especially when they came to our track & field facility. I want to thank Emma Savage-Davis for getting our team involved and providing the books we signed and donated to all the Pee Dee students."
The men's and women's track & field teams are now busy preparing for the upcoming season and will participate in the intra-squad Black & Teal Showdown on Friday, Dec. 3.
