CONWAY - Coastal Carolina's Kyle Kling has been named to the 2011 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team.

The incoming senior was the only Chanticleer named to the 420 member team and one of only 10 student-athletes from the Big South Conference.

Kling, a distance runner, earned All-Big South honors in the 10,000-meters after placing second in a time of 31:17.35. The Louisville, Ohio native was also the Chanticleers top performer of the season in the 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m. Kling's junior track season ended with an NCAA East Preliminary Round bid in the 10,000-meters. He earned the 48 seed after posting a season-best time of 30:10.71 at the Raleigh Relays on March 25.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Kling, who earned All-Big South cross country honors in 2009 and 2010, will now turn his focus to the 2011 cross country season as he prepares to lead the Chants in their pursuit of the program's fourth Big South Championship. Coastal will open up the cross country season on Sept. 2 at the South Carolina Gamecock Open.
