NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coastal Carolina University men’s track and field athlete Mark Manno (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) has been named to the 2009 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team, the organization announced recently.

Manno, a freshman who carries a 3.407 grade-point-average in physical education, had an outstanding rookie campaign for the Chanticleers. Manno was second in the Big South in the hammer throw and had a personal-best throw of 192’3” (58.59 m) that qualified him for the NCAA East Regional. He also qualified for the USATF Junior Nationals, finishing fourth in the hammer with a throw of 209’4” (63.80 m) with a 6kg hammer. He finished sixth in the college division of the Penn Relays and currently is fourth all-time in the hammer in Coastal Carolina history. Manno also had the top shot put mark for the Chants in 2009 with a mark of 46’1.25” (14.05 m).

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
