CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University track and field duo of Jacques Watson (Sumter, S.C./Sumter) and Ikeiylah Brown (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head) will participate in the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark., on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Watson will compete on the first day of the championships, as the qualifying for the high jump will take place Wednesday, June 10 at 8 p.m., CDT. The finals of the high jump will take place Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m., CDT.
Watson currently has the sixth-best mark in the nation in the high jump, as he cleared 7'3.25" (2.22 meters) at the Florida Relays in April. That mark also is 18th in the country this year and 49th in the world. This is the second straight year Watson has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He qualified with a leap of 7'1" at the NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro, N.C., finishing third to earn an automatic bid.
Brown will start the championships with the first round of the 200 meters Thursday, June 11 at 6:10 p.m., CDT. The semifinals will take place that night at 7:35 p.m., CDT with the finals Saturday, June 13 at 12:35 p.m., CDT.
Brown was the second at-large selection in the nation in the 200 meters, currently ranking 18th in the nation with a time of 23.42 that was set in the 2009 Big South Championships in April. Brown was 14th in the NCAA East Regional with a time of 24.04.
