Baseball's Meo and Bowman Named to the Ping! Baseball All-Freshman Team

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University baseball freshmen Anthony Meo (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) and Daniel Bowman (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) have been named to the All-Ping! Baseball Freshmen Teams, the website announced. Meo was a first team selection at starting pitcher, while Bowman earned third-team honors in the outfield.   Meo, a righthanded pitcher, was 9-2 with a 2.93 earned-run average in 17 appearances for the Chanticleers his first season on campus. Meo struck out 68 batters in 76.2 innings while holding opponents to a .233 batting average. A First Team All-Big South honoree at starting pitcher, Meo had a 5-2 record in conference play. He struck out a career-high 10 batters in the win over VMI May 10 and pitched seven innings, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts, in a Big South Tournament win over High Point May 22. Meo was the first-ever freshman Opening Day starter in the Gary Gilmore era, striking out six in six innings in a 16-3 win over Southern Illinois Feb. 20. Meo also earned Freshman All-America honors by Louisville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.   Bowman, an outfielder, hit .333 with 14 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 54 RBI for the Chanticleers his first season on campus. A Second Team All-Big South honoree, He had a .590 slugging percentage and hit .381 in Big South tilts. He was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional win over Kansas May 29 and had three RBI and three hits in a Big South Tournament win over High Point May 22. In a regular-season game against High Point, Bowman had five RBI, which included a home run. He set a Coastal Carolina single-season home run record by a freshman and had 25 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI performances. Bowman also earned Freshman All-America honors by Louisville Slugger.
