ATLANTA, GA. -- Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team saw one school record fall as the Chanticleers wrapped up competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday, May 17 at George C. Griffin Track.
Redshirt freshman Jacques Watson (Sumter, S.C./Sumter) broke his own school record in the high jump as he cleared 7'1" (2.16m), which placed second and was the top collegiate mark. Watson's previous record was 7'0.5" (2.15m) that was set at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational.
Also in the high jump, freshman Ross Graves (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) set a new personal record, jumping 6'8.75" (2.05m), which ties him with Jerome Simpson for second all-time among Coastal's leaders.
On the track, the 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Ben Wheeler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg), junior Jarvarius Phelps (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood), sophomore Jerome St. Bernard (Markham, Ontario, Canada/McGivney (Monmouth)) and freshman Ryan Edlich (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) finished sixth with a time of 41.53.
St. Bernard had Coastal's top time in the 200 meters, clocking 22.29 and finishing 41st. Sophomore Alex Levy (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) was 42nd in the 200 with a time of 22.31, while Edlich ran 22.58 and was 44th.
In the 400 meters, Phelps ran 48.63, which was 29th overall and the 15-best collegiate time.
Coastal Carolina returns to action in two weeks at the NCAA East Regional Championships. The meet will take place Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at Florida State University's Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla.
