ATLANTA, GA. -- Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team won two field events in the first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational at George C. Griffin Track Friday, May 16.
Redshirt senior Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) took the title in the hammer after tossing a winning throw of 198'9" (60.57m). Meanwhile, senior Jake Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) finished second in the hammer with a mark of 197' (60.05m).
Redshirt senior Thomas Jordan (Lebanon Valley, Pa./Cedar Crest) had a winning mark of 214'3" (65.31m) in the javelin, while junior Kyle Hoddy (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) finished fourth in the javelin with a 192'9" (58.76m) throw.
Also in the field, freshman Keith Graham (Charleston, S.C./West Ashley (Fork Union)) was eighth in the long jump with mark of 23'7.25" (7.19m).
Around the track, Coastal competed in the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash. In the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Jack Hutchison (Chester, Md./Kent Island) finished 16th with a time of 14.99 and classmate Ben Wheeler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) ran 15.00 and placed 18th. In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Jerome St. Bernard (Markham, Ontario, Canada/McGivney (Monmouth)) had Coastal's top time as he ran 10.96 and finished 25th. Freshman Ryan Edlich (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) placed 26th and clocked 11.03, while sophomore Alex Levy (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) ran 11.40 and was 37th.
Coastal Carolina resumes competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday, May 17. Field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., and track events begin at 2 p.m.
