ATLANTA, GA. Coastal Carolina's track and field programs had three athletes place in the top five on the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational at the George C. Griffin Track on the campus of Georgia Tech.
Senior Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta)) qualified for the NCAA East Regionals in the 3,000m steeplechase with a season-best 9:01.91 in winning his first steeplechase event of the season.
Junior Nelson Oliveira (Coimbra, Portugal/Quinta das Flores) also ran well for the men, as his 3:52.25 was a season-best in the 1,500m, placing 22nd.
For the women, senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) was second in the 5,000m with a 17:08.80 in her final race before NCAA Regionals.
Sophomore Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester), an NCAA East Regional qualifier in the long jump and triple jump, finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.81m/19'00.75".
Coastal Carolina's track and field programs will continue competition in the Georgia Tech Invitational starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.
