Tyrone Murphy Set A New School Record at the Georgia Tech Invitational
ATLANTA, Ga. Due to inclement weather many events were delayed at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Coastal Carolina men's squad broke another school record in the 400-meter-hurdles on Saturday, May 12.
Tyrone Murphy (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) became the sixth NCAA regional qualifier for CCU in the 400-meter hurdles with a new school record time of 52.47. Murphy finished 14th overall and was the eighth best collegiate finisher.
Coastal's relay team of Murphy, Jerome Simpson (Reidsville, N.C./Reidsville), Jarvarius Phelps (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood), and Jason Lambert (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) recorded the second fastest time in school history in the 4x400-meter-relay with a 3:11.66. The time is second to the school record time set earlier this season set by the same team.
With a seventh-place finish overall Tommy Sugishita threw the discus 158-6 and had the fifth best collegiate mark.
Phelps ran the 400 meters in 48.55 and finished third in his section.
