Tyrone Murphy Set A New School Record at the Georgia Tech Invitational

     ATLANTA, Ga. – Due to inclement weather many events were delayed at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Coastal Carolina men's squad broke another school record in the 400-meter-hurdles on Saturday, May 12.   Tyrone Murphy (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) became the sixth NCAA regional qualifier for CCU in the 400-meter hurdles with a new school record time of 52.47. Murphy finished 14th overall and was the eighth best collegiate finisher.   Coastal's relay team of Murphy, Jerome Simpson (Reidsville, N.C./Reidsville), Jarvarius Phelps (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood), and Jason Lambert (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) recorded the second fastest time in school history in the 4x400-meter-relay with a 3:11.66. The time is second to the school record time set earlier this season set by the same team.   With a seventh-place finish overall Tommy Sugishita threw the discus 158-6 and had the fifth best collegiate mark.   Phelps ran the 400 meters in 48.55 and finished third in his section.
