ATLANTA, GA -- The Coastal Carolina men's track and field squad posted a pair of top-three finishes on the opening day of the Georgia Tech Invitational, May 12.
In the javelin, two-time Big South champion sophomore Thomas Jordan (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) finished second by posting a distance of 66.57m (218' 5"), while freshman Kyle Hoddy (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) was ninth with a throw of 55.51m (182' 1").
Senior Nelson Oliveira (Coimbra, Portugal/Quintas das Flores) just missed qualifying for the NCAA East Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, chopping 10 seconds off his season best time to place third in 9:08.39. The regional qualifying time for this season is 9:07.00.
In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) ran a team season-best time of 3:51.25 to place 14th, while Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) finished 20th in season-best 3:54.29.The competition, which is one of the last chances to qualify for the NCAA East Regional in two weeks, wraps up, Sat., May 13.
