Men's Track & Field Competes At Georgia Tech Invitational This Week

COASTAL TRACK & FIELD HEADS TO GEORGIA TECH INVITATIONAL: Coastal Carolina’s men’s track & field team will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to participate in the North Carolina A&T Last Chance Meet to qualify for the NCAA East Regionals. Competition will begin Friday, May 12 and continue through Saturday, May 13. The first event for the Chanticleers will be Friday’s javelin competition at 6 p.m.

CHANTICLEERS AT THE GEORGIA TECH INVITATIONAL: On the track, freshman Aubrey Lemon will be competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. Freshman Jamie McCarthy, junior Doug Currie and senior Nelson Oliveira will be competing in the 1500-meter run. Freshman Tyrone Murphy will compete in the 400 meter hurdles as sophomore Jarvarius Phelps will compete in the 400-meter dash. Redshirt sophomore Daniel Stokes will also be in the 100-meter dash.

In field events, Tommy Sugishita will participate in the hammer throw along with teammate Galen Jones while Marcus Johnson will compete in the long jump. Thomas Jordan and freshman Kyle Hoddy will be participating in javelin throw.

2006 EAST REGIONAL QUALIFIERS: The Chanticleers have at least five team members who will compete in at least six events in the NCAA East Regionals this season. Senior Mark Johnson will be defending his title in the pole vault competition, Thomas Jordan in the javelin, Galen Jones in the hammer and shot put, Tommy Sugishita in the discus and freshman Tyrone Murphy in the 400-meter hurdles. The Regionals, hosted by North Carolina A&T, will be held in Greensboro, N.C. and will begin Saturday, May 26.

DUKE TWILIGHT RESULTS: Coastal Carolina men’s track and field participated in the Duke Twilight Sunday, May 7. The Chanticleers could only participate in two events due to weather conditions but junior Tommy Sugishita was the hammer throw champion with a throw of 172’4" (52.52 m).

Freshman Jamie McCarthy finished second in the 1500-meter race with a time of 3:53.50 and teammate junior Doug Currie was fifth with a time of 3:55.07.
