Track and Field’s Mark Johnson Named Big South Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

CONWAY, S.C.- Junior Mark Johnson (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) was named the Big South New Balance Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced May 5.

Johnson, who is the reigning NCAA East Regional pole vaulting champion, became the first Chanticleer to ever win an individual event at the Penn Relays. Johnson’s pole vault of 5.30m/17’04.75 was .15 farther than his next closest competitior, and was the fifth time he has won an individual pole vaulting championship this season.

This is the second time Johnson has been named the Big South New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. He was previously named for the week ending Mar. 21.

Coastal Carolina’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the Duke Twilight on Saturday, May 7, in Durham, N.C., at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University.
