Track and Field's Johnson Wins the Pole Vault on the Final Day of the Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, PA. Coastal Carolina's junior Mark Johnson (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) won the college men's pole vault championship on the final day of the Penn Relays on the Saturday, April 30 at Franklin Field.
Johnson, who is also the reigning NCAA East Regional pole vaulting champion, won the pole vault with a 5.30m/17'04.75. His vault was .15 meters farther than his next closest competitior, and was the fifth time Johnson has won an individual pole vaulting title in competition this season.
Sophomore Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) placed 11th in college men's hammer throw, 56.06m/183'11. The mark was a season best and personal best for Jones. It was also the second best throw by a men's Coastal hammer thrower in school history behind former Chant Tyler McCant.
Coastal's track and field programs are next in action next weekend, May 7, at the Orange and Blue Classic in Clemson, S.C. on the campus of Clemson University.
