CONWAY – Eleven members of the men’s track & field team will represent Coastal Carolina at the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival starting Thursday at Philadelphia’s Franklin Field.

With the first meet being held on April 21, 1895, the Penn Relays are the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country.  Through 116 editions of the meet, more athletes have run at the Penn Relays than at any single meet in the world.  More spectators have watched the meet than any in the world except the Olympics and World Championships.

After clearing seven feet for the first time this season at last weekend’s Big South Championship Meet, high jumper Jacques Watson earned a spot in the championship division of the high jump.  Watson, a three time Big South high jump champion, also holds the conference’s all-time mark of 2.25m (7-4.50).  Ross Graves will compete in the college division of the high jump on Friday morning.

Jason Flanagan, who ranks 48 in the NCAA overall in the javelin this season, will attempt to improve on his season best distance of 70.09m (229-11).  Flanagan, a Philadelphia native, has been seeded in the championship section of the javelin and will compete against several of the top throwers in the country.  Fellow Chanticleer Bryan Fill will join Flanagan in championship section at the meet.  Most recently, Fill finished fifth in the event with a throw of 59.06m (193-09) at the Big South Championships.

Freshman Tyler Askew will make his Penn Relays debut as he competes in the long jump.  Askew set his collegiate best at the conference championship meet with a leap of 7.18m (23-06.75) to place third and earn a place on the all-conference squad.

Coastal will also be entering the 4x100 meter, 4x200 meter and sprint medley relays. The combination of Corey Jameson, Lenny Steed, Chris Lawson and Ryan Edlich will compete in the 4x100 meter relay.  The quartet have posted a top time of 40.27 this season.  Lawson, Edlich, Steed and Raheen Frederick hold the Chants top time this season in the 4x200 meter relay with a 1:27.15 at the Shamrock Invitational.
