CONWAY, S.C.-The Coastal Carolinas mens and womens track and field teams had 16 athletes qualify, with 15 athletes set to compete, in the Penn Relays held on the campus of University of Pennsylvania in Philadephia, Pa., April 28-30 at Franklin Field.
The seven men that qualified for the meet include runners Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta)) (Steeplechase), Nelson Oliveria (Coimbra, Portugal/Quinta das Flores) (5,000m) and Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) (5,000m). Junior hurdler Kendall White (Columiba, S.C./Richland Northeast) is competing in the 400m hurdles for the Chanticleers.
Sophomore Tim Roa (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) will be competing in the collegiate pole vault on Friday, Apr. 29 at 10 a.m., while junior Mark Johnson (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./North Myrtle Beach) is set to compete in the mens pole vault championship on Saturday, Apr. 30 at 2 p.m. Junior Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) qualified to take part in the collegiate hammer throw on Saturday, Apr. 30 at 12:15 p.m.
For the women, sophomore Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) is set to compete in two events, the college long jump on Thursday and the championship triple jump on Friday.
Three other Lady Chants are set to compete in multiple events. Junior Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas/Rowlett (Coffeyville JC)) will throw in the college hammer, discus and shotput. Fellow junior thrower Tamara Bryant (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle (Moorpark Community College)) will throw in the college hammer and championship discus, while freshman Sylvia Galarza (Millville, N.J./Middletown South) is throwing in the college shotput and discus.
Senior Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) competes in Thursdays 10,000m college championships. Freshman distance runner Christina Mohr (Ulmen, Germany/Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium) (5.000m), sophomore Dana Sizemore (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) (javelin) and junior Ebony Brown (Columbia, S.C./Eau Claire) (400m hurdles) will all compete for Coastal in one event each.
Senior Lindsey Kozlowski (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Port Arthur Collegiate) qualified for the 5,000m, but will be unable to compete this week.
Coastal Carolinas track and field team will travel to Clemson, S.C., to participate in the Orange and Purple Classic on Saturday, May 5.
