HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (30-9, 10-4 Big South) fell to High Point (16-19, 9-9 Big South) 7-2 April 19 in the final game of the three-game Big South set.   High Point jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third, sending 10 Panthers to the plate. Eric Marion and Pablo Rosario walked to open the inning. High Point loaded the bases on a bunt single from Jeff Cowan. Alfie Wheeler singled home a pair of runs. That was followed by a sacrifice bunt from Bill Manion and a sacrifice fly from Billy Alvino, scoring Cowan. Kyle Mahoney doubled to right field to score Wheeler and Mahoney would score on a double from Spencer Andrews, making it 5-0 Panthers.   Coastal Carolina scored a run in the fourth, but could have had more. Senior David Anderson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) doubled to lead off the inning. Redshirt junior Chance Gilmore (Surfside Beach, S.C./Virginia) then walked. After freshman Daniel Bowman (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) flew out, junior Jose Iglesias (Miami, Fla./St. John’s) singled to load the bases. Freshman Taylor Motter (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) hit a grounder to third that scored Anderson on the fielder’s choice to third, cutting the High Point lead to 5-1. The Panthers’ Brian Jones got freshman Tommy Winegardner (St. Leonard, Md./Riverdale Baptist) to ground out to end the threat.   In the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers scored a run as Marion doubled in Max Fulginiti, who doubled with one out in the inning. Coastal Carolina answered with a run in the top of the sixth as Bowman and Iglesias led off the inning with singles and Motter drove Bowman in with a sacrifice fly to left field.   High Point made it 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth as Fulginiti singled home Wheeler with two outs.   Junior Adam Rice (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Elgin C.C.), senior Tyler Bortnick (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), Anderson, Bowman and Iglesias had two hits apiece, while Motter drove in a pair of runs. For High Point, Cowan, Alvino and Fulginiti had two hits apiece.   Meo was tagged with his first loss as a Chanticleer, allowing six runs and nine hits in 4.2 innings. Junior Nick McCully (Lakeland, Fla./Santa Fe Catholic) struck out four in 2.2 innings pitched. Brian Jones earned the win for the Panthers, giving up just two runs with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.   Coastal Carolina is back in action Tuesday, April 21 at Clemson. Game time is at 6:30 p.m.
