ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team finished second at the 2008 New Balance Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Irwin Belk Track Complex in Rock Hill, S.C., totaling 156 points. Liberty won the men's title with 232 points.
In the final day of competition Saturday, April 19, the Chanticleers won four events, including both the 110-meter and the 400-meter hurdles. The Chants also earned 10 All-Conference honors, which includes the four event winners, in the final day's competition.
Sophomore Ben Wheeler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) and junior Tyrone Murphy (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) claimed titles in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Wheeler clocked 14.60, while Murphy ran 53.06.
Redshirt senior Thomas Jordan (Lebanon Valley, Pa./Cedar Crest) won his fourth Big South crown in the javelin with a 215'10" (65.78m) toss.
Redshirt freshman Jacques Watson's (Sumter, S.C./Sumter) win in the high jump came down to a jump-off between him and Winthrop's Jason Williams. Both Watson and Williams cleared 7'0.25" (2.14m), but were unable to clear the next mark of 7'1.75" (2.18m) and a jump-off was used to determine the winner.
