Baseball's McCully Named to the Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University baseball junior Nick McCully (Lakeland, Fla./Santa Fe Catholic) has been named to the Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced. McCully is one of 45 relief pitchers to be on the list.   The right-handed junior is 3-0 with eight saves and a 1.12 earned-run average in 17 appearances this season for the Chanticleers. McCully has 30 strikeouts in 24 innings compared to just 10 walks, while opponents are hitting just .207 against him. He has a career 3.22 ERA and 15 saves, which ties him for third on Coastal Carolina’s all-time saves mark. McCully’s last outing was April 10 against Radford, in which he earned the win while pitching three innings of relief. He struck out four Highlanders, including striking out the side in the 10th inning. McCully had six strikeouts in a 4-3 11-inning win over UNC Wilmington March 31, while he has allowed a run in just two of his 17 appearances.   Coastal Carolina has had a player on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List each of the past three seasons. Senior David Anderson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) was on the list in both 2007 and 2008.   McCully and Winthrop’s Tyler Mizenko are the two pitchers on the list from the Big South Conference.   Coastal Carolina (29-7, 9-2 Big South) is at High Point April 17-19 for a three-game Big South series. The series starts Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m.
