Men's Track and Field in Second After First Day at Big South Meet, Graham Wins Long Jump
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team is currently in second place with 29 points after the Day One of the 2008 New Balance Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by Mondo and UCS held Thursday, April 17 at Irwin Belk Track Complex. Two Chanticleers earned All-Conference honors in the first day's competition, including one conference champion, while four additional Chants scored points.
Freshman Keith Graham (Charleston, S.C./West Ashley (Fork Union)) claimed the long jump title with a 23'5.25" (7.14m) mark. Also scoring points in the event were freshman Ryan Edlich (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) and redshirt freshman Jacques Watson (Sumter, S.C./Sumter). Edlich finished fourth with a 22'9.75" (6.95m) jump, while Watson's 21'2.75" (6.47m) mark placed eighth.
Redshirt senior Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) picked up All-Conference honors in the hammer, placing third with a mark of 199'6" (60.81). Senior Jake Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) scored points in the hammer after he had a fourth-place finish with a mark of 193'4" (58.94m).
Senior Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario, Canada/Sir Winston Churchill) scored points in the day's final event, placing seventh in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:38.00.
With five events completed in the decathlon, sophomore Jack Hutchison (Chester, Md./Kent Island) is in second with 3,362 points, while classmate Steven Harmon (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) is right behind in third with 3,082 points. Sophomore Alex Levy (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) has 2,901 points and is in seventh.
Liberty leads the team scores after the first day's competition with 39 points.
Day Two of the 2008 New Balance Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 17.
