Men's Track & Field Has Strong Performance At Settle Bagwell Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. Coastal Carolinas mens track and field had several outstanding performances at the Settle Bagwell Invitational, hosted by Charleston Southern Saturday, April 15.
In field events, junior Galen Jones (Evans, Ga/Lakeside) won the shot put competition with a mark of 477.5 (14.51m) and the hammer throw with a 18111 (55.44m) throw. Jones also finished second in the javelin competition with a personal best of 1624" (49.49m). Junior Tommy Sugishita (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande (Moorpark JC)) was the champion in the discus with a 16111 (49.36m) while teammate sophomore Jacob Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden)finished second with a 1501 (45.75). Senior Casey Chow (Sandy, Utah/Alta (Utah)) won the pole vault with a season best of 1411 (4.55m)
On the track, Coastal finished first in the 4x100 meter relay with the team of sophomore Daniel Stokes (Bluffton, S.C./Hilton Head (Savannah State)), freshman Aubrey Lemon (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford), freshman Whittmin Reese (Durham, N.C./Southern Durham) and sophomore Jerome Simpson (Reidsville, N.C./Reidsville) with a time of 41.23. Freshman Jamie McCarthy won the 800m with a time of 1:54.93 and was followed by teammate junior Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) in second, who posted a seasonal best of 1:55.21. Stokes also finished second in the 100 meters with a personal best of 10.70.
The Chanticleers will now prepare to host the 2006 New Balance Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Competition will be Thu.-Sat., Apr. 20-22, at CCU's Track Facility.
