Lexington, Va. Coastal's track and field teams had a great first day at the Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, Apr. 14 in Lexington, Va. on the campus of Virginia Military Institute.
Senior Anne Marie Mousinga (Galati, Romania/ Radu Negru) won the 10,000m with her time of 37:40.61. Sophomore Claudia Witte (Warlin, Germany/Sportgymnasium Neubrandenburg) and senior Lindsey Kozlowski (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Port Arthur) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Coastal throwers had a strong first day as two Lady Chanticleers attained All-Conference marks. Leading the throwers was junior Tamara Bryant (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle (Moorpark CC)) who placed second in the hammer with a 54.22m/177.11. Sophomore Jessica Pressley (Mullins, S.C./Mullins) set a new personal best in the hammer with her All-Conference throw of 50.72m/166'05". Senior Karen Olesky (Jarretsville, Md./North Hartford) and junior Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas/Rowlett (Coffeyville JC)) finished fourth and fifth in the hammer.
Through the first day, Coastal freshman Elisha Tegeder (Barnegat, N.J./Southern) is leading the women's Heptathlon with 2488 pts.
Senior Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta)) placed second in the men's 10,000m with a 31:04.23. Freshman Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) placed seventh, 32:58.01, for the men in the 10,000 on the first day of action.
Sophomore thrower Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) placed fourth in the hammer, 54.11/177'6" for the Chants.
Coastal's track and field program will continue competing in the Big South Outdoor Championship starting tommorrow at 11:00 a.m with the women's long jump.
