CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team hosted its fourth and final home meet of the season with the Chanticleer Classic taking place Saturday, April 12 at the CCU Track. The Chanticleers posted first-place finished in eight events and also had the top collegiate finisher in two.
Senior Jake Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) won both the shot put and the hammer throw. He took the shot put title with a 49'9" (15.16m) launch. He also recorded his first 200-foot mark in the hammer throw as he threw 201'1" (61.30m), which ranks second all-time among Coastal's leaders.
Also in the field, freshman Ross Graves (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) won the high jump with a 6'4.75" (1.95m) clearance. Junior Eric Singleton (Beaufort, S.C./Beaufort) threw 147'11" (45.09m) en route to winning the discus. Redshirt senior Dee Stokes (Bluffton, S.C./Hilton Head (Savannah State)) and sophomore Steve Harmon (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) posted top collegiate marks in their respective events. Stokes had a 19'2.75" (5.86m) leap in the long jump, which was fifth overall, while Harmon's 145' (44.19m) toss in the javelin was second overall.
On the track, junior Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) won the 1,500 meters in a season best time of 3:57.94, while senior Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) clocked a race-winning time of 9:12.63 in the 3,000 meters. Sophomore Kasheem Clifton (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern) took the 110-meter hurdle title with a time of 14.90. The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomores Matthew Allen (Georgetown, S.C./Georgetown) and Alex Levy (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley) and junior Tyrone Murphy (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) and Stokes raced a winning time of 42.39.
Coastal returns to action at the New Balance Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Rock Hill, S.C., April 17-19.
