Men's Track and Field Finishes a Big Weekend at Three Different Meets

     CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s track and field team finished the weekend’s competition on Saturday, Apr. 6 at the Duke Invitational, the Florida Relays, and the Texas Relays.   At the Duke Invitational, all of Coastal’s distance crew set new personal best times in the 5,000 meters. Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) was the top finisher for CCU with a time of 14:32.01 and a 22nd place. In 39th was Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) with a time of 15:13.19 and just behind him in 42nd was Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) in 15:15.77. Max Hacker (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) ran a time of 15:20.44 and Timmy Supplee (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) finished in 15:22.60 for 47th and 49th place respectively.   Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) ran a season best time of 3:53.48 in the 1500 meters.  Current Big South leader, John Heron (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) finished the 3,000-meterp-steeplechase in 14th place with a time of 9:29.26   In the Florida Relays, Chris Abercrombie (Mauldin, S.C./Mauldin (Charleston Southern)) brought home a fifth-place finish in the discus with a hurl of 152-07. In sixth was Tommy Sugishita (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande (Moorepark JC)) with a 152-02 throw. Sugishita also competed in the hammer throw and finished in eighth with a toss of 170-05.  Eric Singleton (Beaufort, S.C./Beaufort) was the final Chanticleer finisher in the discus who ended up in ninth-place with a 148-00 throw.  Jacob Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) threw the hammer 170-02 for a ninth-place finish.   Boyce Bivings (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) recorded a fifth-place in the triple jump with a leap of 45-00.50.   In the 110-meter-high-hurdles, Jack Hutchinson (Chester, Md./Kent Island) finished in 14.79 in 17th place. Right behind him in 18th was Jim Chemlik (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) finishing in 14.95. Ben Wheeler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) ran a time of 15.17 for 22nd place.   Tyrone Murphy (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) finished the 400-meter-hurdles in 58.44 in 22nd place.   In the 100-meter-dash Aubrey Lemon (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford) posted a time of 10.75 for a 13th place finish.   Jarvarius Phelps (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood) finished the 400 meters in 29th place in 49.17. In the 800 meters, Marshawn Martin (Columbia, S.C./Richland Northeast (S.C. State) finished in 1:57.24.   Coastal competed in five relays at the Florida relays. In the 4x200-meter-relay CCU finished in seventh with a time of 1:26.94 which sets a new school record (Aubrey Lemon, Jason Lambert, Jarvarius Phelps, Alex Levy) the previous record was 1:28.89 set earlier this year. Coastal brought home a sixth-place finish in the sprint medley in 3:35.48. In the 4x110-meter-shuttle-hurdle relay the Chants finished in 1:00.50 for second-place behind the Florida Gators who finished in 58.60.   In the Texas Relays, All-American Thomas Jordan (Lebanon Valley, Pa./Cedar Crest) recorded a throw of 198-11 for a nine-place finish.   CCU returns home next Saturday, Apr. 14 to host the Chanticleer Classic at the Coastal Carolina Track and Field Complex.
