Men's Track and Field To Host Chanticleer Classic This Weekend

CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will host their final home meet of the season, Chanticleer Classic, on Saturday Apr. 9.

The field events are set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the men’s hammer throw. The running events are to set to begin at noon with the 3,000m steeplechase. The meet is expect to conclude at 4:10 p.m. with the women’s 4x400 relay team

At the Charlotte Invitational two members of CCU’s track and field team captured individual titles as senior Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary) and sophomore Eileen Wicker (Quinton, Va./New Kent) each won the 2,000m steeplechase. Freshman Christina Mohr (Ulmen, Germany/Geischwister-Scholl-Gymnasium) and sophomore Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) both had second place finishes at Charlotte in the1,500m and long jump, respectively, for the women’s program.

For the men’s team, other standouts include distance runners junior Nelson Oliveria (Coimbra, Portugal/ Quinta das Flores) and sophmore Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern). Oliveria placed second in the 1,500m with a team-season best 3:56.65, while Currie placed third in the same event with season-best 3:56.65.

Coastal Carolina’s track and field team will travel to Lexington, Va. to participate in the Big South Conference Outdoor Championships on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute, Apr. 14- 16.
