CONWAY, S.C.-Coastal Carolinas mens and womens track and field teams will be traveling to Charlotte, N.C. this Saturday, Apr. 2, to participate in the Charlotte Invitational.
The field events are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with the mens hammer throw. The running events are to set to begin at 11:00 a.m. The meet is expect to conclude at 6:00 p.m. on Apr. 2nd with the womens 4x400meter relay.
The Coastals womens throwers are coming off a strong meet at the Raleigh Relays. Junior Brittany Reid (McKinney, Texas/Rowlett (Coffeyville J.C.)) placed fourth in the discus (47.05m/1544") while fellow junior Tamara Bryant (Pasadena, Calif./La Salle (Moorpark C.C.)) placed fifth in both the discus and the hammer throw.
Sophomore Chasity Johnson (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) also had a strong performance for the womens program in the Raleigh Relays as she placed third in the triple jump (12.51m/410.50") and ninth in the 100m dash.
Seniors Anne Marie Moutsinga (Galati, Romania/Radu Negru) and Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta)) both had NCAA National Qualifying scores in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational last weekend. Moutsingas 34:41.79 is a new personal, school and Big South Conference record. She also was named the New Balance Big South Track Athlete for the week for the accomplishment. While Kipchiris also reached NCAA National Qualifying status with his 29:38.62 in the 10,000m , which is a new school and conference record as well.
Coastal Carolinas track and field team will end its road trip by coming back to Conway, S.C. to host the Chanticleer Classic on Saturday, Apr. 9.
