CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's track and field team finished competition at the Shamrock Invitational Saturday, March 22 at the CCU Track. On the final day of the meet, the Chanticleers recorded 10 top-10 performances.
The day was highlight by a pair of second-place finishes from senior Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario, Canada/Sir Winston Churchill) and junior Tyrone Murphy (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman). Paul ran a career-best 3:58.96 in the 1,500 meters, while Murphy finished the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 52.22.
Also on the track, senior Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:41.71 and freshman Kevin Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatsboro-Horsham) added a 10th-place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:06.22. Sophomore Jerome St. Bernard ran 10.95 in the 100-meter dash finals en route to placing ninth. Both of Coastal's 4x100-meter relay teams finished in the top-10. CCU's "A" team of St. Bernard, freshman Ryan Edlich (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan), Murphy and junior Whittmin Reese (Durham, N.C./Southern Durham) ran 41.82 and placed fifth, while CCU's "B" team of junior Jarvarius Phelps (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood), sophomores Matthew Allen (Georgetown, S.C./Georgetown) and Ben Wheeler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) and freshman Kiefer Whitmore (Mauldin, S.C./Mauldin) was ninth with a time of 42.76.
In the field events, Edlich was fourth in the high jump by clearing a career best 6'4.75" (1.95m). In the shot put, Redshirt senior Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) finished sixth with a season-best 49'6.25" (15.09m) throw and senior Jacob Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) was seventh with a 48'9.5" (14.87m) mark.
