Men's Track Sets Two New School Records

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s track and field team finished day two of the Shamrock Invitational with a new school records in the 4x200-meter-relay and the distance medley relay.   Jack Hutchison (Chester, Md./Kent Island) took home the top spot in the decathlon finishing with 6305 points. Hutchinson’s point total ranks third in All-time Coastal history. He took the lead on the second day in the first event running a 14.96 in the 110-meter-high-hurdles. He fell to second-place before going into the last event. Hutchinson jumped into first place when he beat the leader by 17 seconds in the 1500 meter run to win by just 35 points.   Timmy Supplee (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) won the 3000 meter run in a personal best time of 8:56.01.   Aubrey Lemon (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford), Ben Wheeler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) Jarvarius Phelps (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood) and Jason Lambert (Londonberry, N.H./Londonberry) set a new Coastal record in the 4x200-meter-relay with a finished of 1:28.86. The foursome beat the old record of 1:29.32 which was set in 1999.   The Chants also set a new school record in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:09.33 and a third-place finish.  John Heron (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), Marshawn Martin (Columbia. S.C./Richland Northeast (South Carolina State)), Jamie McCarthy Riverstick, Cork Co., Ireland/North Monastery),  and Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) beat the old record of  10:14.19 which was set in 1999.   Other top ten finishers for CCU were Kyle Hoddy (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) who finished in second-place in the javelin (58.09m/190-7 ft.). Tommy Sugishita (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande (Moorepark JC)) had a ninth place finish in the hammer (52.87m/173-5 ft.) Jacob Edelman  (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) had a personal best throw in the hammer throw for a 10th place finish. (51.24m/168-1 ft.).   The Chants continue action on Saturday, Mar. 17 with events starting at 10 a.m. at the CCU Track and Field Facility.
