Three Olympians and two world champion athletes are scheduled to compete in the meet for their respective track & field clubs.  Coastal Carolina volunteer assistant coach Zola Budd-Pieterse, a two-time cross country World Champion and three-time Olympian, is scheduled to compete in the 5,000 meters.  Bershawn Jackson, the 2005 World Champion and 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist in the 400 meter hurdles, will run in 800 meters and as a member of his club’s 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams.

Coastal Carolina alumnus and Olympian Amber Campbell will host the Amber Campbell Hammer Throw Invitational, a separate event from the CCU/Shamrock Invitational, on Friday, March 18 at 11 am.  Campbell’s Invitational will feature her throwing with the 11 top women’s hammer throwers in attendance at the meet.

The field of teams will include two men’s teams and one women’s team that ended the 2010 season ranked in the top seven of the NCAA Southeast Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. South Carolina’s men’s and women’s team finished last season ranked second while Liberty’s men finished with a No. 7 ranking.

Both the Coastal men’s and women’s teams will be giving back to the community as they host the  Myrtle Beach Track & Field Day, a free event open to kids 6-12, Thursday March 17 at Doug Shaw Stadium.
