Men's Track's Hutchison Does Well In First Day of Heptathlon

    CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina men's track and field's Jack Hutchison (Chester, Md./Kent Island), CCU's lone competitor on the opening day of the Shamrock Invitational, is currently in second place in the decathlon, Mar. 15.

Competing in his first-ever decathlon, Hutchison has 3,422 points through the first five events. He won the 100-meter dash in 10.51, good for 973 pointsThe final five events of the 10-event competition will be tomorrow, Mar. 16, starting with the 110m high hurdles at 10 a.m.

"Jack had a very good first day in his first-ever decathlon," head coach Jeff Jacobs commented. "He really performed solidly throughout and finished strong in the 400 with a 49.92. I was very impressed with his composure and look forward to seeing what he can do on the second day."

 The remainder of the decathlon, along several running and throwing events, will highlight the second day (Mar. 16) of the three-day meet. (Complete meet schedule.)
