Baseball's Hessler Named Big South Co-Pitcher of the Week

. – UNC Asheville senior catcher Reed Kreiser (Louisburg, Kan.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville senior Michael Bogaert (Gastonia, N.C.) and Coastal Carolina redshirt-freshman Keith Hessler (Silver Spring, Md.) have been named New Balance Co-Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 23-March 1, it was announced today by the League office.   Kreiser hit .438 with two home runs and six RBI last week, helping the Bulldogs to a 2-2 mark.  He had hits in three of the four games, including two multi-hit games.  Kreiser opened the week with a two-run home run at Furman, then went 2-4 with two more RBI in Asheville’s first win of the season against Central Michigan.  In the final game of the CMU series, Kreiser went 4-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI.  He slugged .875 for the week with 14 total bases and a .412 on-base percentage, in addition to one stolen base and one sacrifice fly.   Bogaert picked up the first win of the season for UNC Asheville in game one of its series against Central Michigan.  He went six innings, allowing one run on three hits.  He walked three and struck out eight batters.  Bogaert also had one scoreless inning of relief and three strikeouts at Furman.  Bogaert’s line last week: 2 GP, 1-0, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 4 BB, 11 SO, 1.29 ERA, .160 opponents batting average.   Hessler had a steller outing against No. 1 North Carolina, helping the Chants to a 7-3 win in Chapel Hill on Feb. 24.  He started the game and gave up just three hits in 5.1 innings while striking out five and allowing just one earned run.  Hessler allowed one extra base hit and held the Tar Heels to a .158 batting average in the no-decision.   Other Baseball Player of the Week Nominees: Kory Morian (Charleston Southern), Rico Noel (Coastal Carolina), Bill Manion (High Point), Mack Hite (Presbyterian), Brian Sandridge (VMI) and Eddie Rohan (Winthrop).   Other Baseball Pitcher of the Week Nominees: Patrick Dolan (Charleston Southern) and Travis Smink (VMI).
