Baseball Ranked 24th in USA Today/ESPN Preseason Coaches' Poll

McLEAN, Va.  – The Coastal Carolina University baseball team is ranked 24th in the USA Today/ESPN Preseason Coaches’ Top-25 poll, it was announced today.    The Chanticleers will face two teams ranked in the top-25, including second-ranked North Carolina Feb. 24 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Coastal Carolina also will face #25 Clemson April 21 in Clemson, S.C.   The Chanticleers finished 2008 ranked 16th in the final coaches’ poll. Coastal Carolina was ranked in 12 of the 16 polls last season, topping out at 14th on May 12. The Chants were not ranked in the 2008 preseason poll.   Coastal Carolina also has been ranked by the NCBWA (22nd), Ping! Baseball (25th) and Louisville Slugger (28th) during this preseason.   The Chanticleers return six starters and nine pitchers from last year’s 50-14 team that advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time in school history.
