Coastal Adds Top Irish Distance Runner to Men's Track and Field Program
CONWAY S.C. Coastal Carolina University and Head Mens Track & Field/Cross Country Coach Jeff Jacobs announced the addition of Irish distance runner Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) to the program Monday Jan. 9.
He comes to Coastal as an accomplished cross country athlete. McCarthy finished 14th overall and was first in the Under-23 bracket at the 2005 Irish National Cross Country Championship. He helped the Irish Junior National team to a silver medal in the 2004 European Cross Country Championship, finishing 31st overall. McCarthy also finished fourth at the 2004 Irish Junior Cross Country Championship. He holds personal bests of 3:54 in the 1500m and 8:38 in the 3000m.
Jamie is a great addition to our program, Jacobs said, His success so far in both cross country and track & field, show great potential to contribute at this level. He will be eligible to compete for us on the track this spring.
The mens track & field season starts Saturday March 4th with the Battle of the Beach dual meet against rival UNC Wilmington.
