The Coastal Carolina University baseball team will be hosting its second annual “Step Up to the Plate” season kickoff dinner Thursday, Jan. 29 from 6-9 p.m., at the Chesapeake House in Myrtle Beach. Tickets are $125 per person and $200 per couple. All proceeds will directly benefit the Mike Pruitt Scholarship Fund and the Grand Strand Miracle League. Coastal Carolina baseball fans will be able to meet the 2009 team and participate in a silent auction. Coastal Carolina has been involved with the Grand Strand Miracle League for the past four seasons, serving as “Buddies” for the kids and helping out during the games with hitting, pitching, fielding and coaching. The Miracle League is currently serving 80 children from Horry and Georgetown Counties and has six teams that play two eight-week seasons per year. The Mike Pruitt Scholarship Fund was established in the summer of 2008 and provides scholarships for Coastal Carolina Youth Baseball Camps to underprivileged kids ages 8-12. The youngsters will be exposed to advanced instruction in throwing, fielding, hitting, base running and team defense by the Coastal Carolina University Baseball Camp Staff. The 50 players will be chosen by the area recreation departments based, first and foremost, on financial need and then by other factors such as love for the game and overall future potential. Anyone interested in attending the “Step Up to the Plate” Dinner should contact Coastal Carolina Baseball Administrative Assistant Sandy Baldridge at firstname.lastname@example.org.
