The Penn Relays Results

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Big South champions Jason Flanagan and Burton JonesII closed out the Coastal Carolina track and field teams' time at the prestigious Penn Relays with top 10 finishes on Saturday at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania's campus.

Flanagan, who currently ranks 15th in the NCAA in the javelin, competed in arguably one of the toughest fields at the event as he squared off with six other NCAA top 50 ranked individuals in the championship division of the men's javelin throw. Competing in front of his family and friends, the Philadelphia native earned medalist honors with a third-place finish. Flanagan was fifth heading into the finals with a throw of 67.80m (222-05); however, the current Big South and Coastal Carolina record holder unleashed a throw of 71.34m (234-00) on his final throw of the day to claim third. Virginia's Andy Fahringer, who Flanagan outdueled earlier this season at the North Florida Invitational, won the event with a final distance of 74.63m (244-10).

Competing in the college division of the triple jump, Jones II added another Chanticleer top 10 finish at the Relays. The Spartanburg, S.C., product leapt 14.33m (47-00.25) on his first attempt of the day to place 10th in the 18-competitor field. Jones II was unable to improve his mark as he fouled on his ensuing two attempts.

The Chanticleer track and field teams will return to action on Sunday, May 6 at the Duke Twilight followed by the Clemson hosted Tiger Final Qualifier on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12.
