LEXINGTON, Va. - The Coastal Carolina men's track and field team slipped to second place after day two of the Big South Conference Track & Field Championships hosted by VMI.

The Chanticleers (56.5 points) fell to second place in the Championship meet, but are still well within striking distance of Liberty (76.5 points). Coastal trails the defending champions by a mere 20 points after eight completed events. High Point (36 points), VMI (34 points) and Charleston Southern (31 points) round out the top five teams.

Jacques Watson highlighted Coastal's second day by winning the third high jump crown of his career. Watson cleared a season-high height of 2.14m (7-00.25) to win the event by a full two inches. Burton Jones continued his streak of scoring in every event he has entered at the conference championships by placing fifth with a season-high jump of 1.99m (6-06.25).

In the day's preliminary events, a total of 11 Coastal Carolina athletes advanced to tomorrow's finals, including four individuals in two events each.

In the 100 meter dash all four members of the top seeded Coastal 4x100 meter relay team advanced to the finals. Chris Lawson led the way with an impressive time of 10.85. Lenny Steed matched Lawson's time with by running a 10.85 in the second heat followed by Corey Jameson in 10.86. Ryan Edlich rounds out the Chants qualifiers in the event after competing the race in 10.89. Steed, Lawson and Edlich also advanced to the 200 meter dash finals with times of 21.85, 22.12 and 22.04, respectively.

In the 400 meters, Stevie Brunson punched his ticket to the finals with a 49.45 in the third heat of the event. Russel Kanner will compete in the finals of both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles on Saturday after recording times of 15.41 in the 110 meter hurdles and 55.19 in the 400 meter hurdles. Senior Jacob Scheuer will also represent the Chants in the 400 meter hurdles after qualifying with a time of 55.79.

The final day of the Big South Conference Championship continues tomorrow with the women's discus at 10 a.m.
