The Coastal Carolina University men's track and field team completed day one in the elite Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., and Asics Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., on Friday, April 2.

 

At the Asics Duke Invitational, Chris Tillotson came in fifth place in the javelin as he threw 177'2" (54 meters). Also in the hammer throw, Tyler Swanson threw 145'10" (44.45 meters) for 24th place. Contending in the high jump, Jerry Ntumba earned 17th place with a jump of 6'2.75" (1.90 meters).

 

In the running events, Max Hacker came in seventh place in the 5000-meter "B" race with a time of 15:20.73. Kyle Kling competed in the "A" race, finishing in 15th place with a time of 15:02.91. Ryan Caputo took 21st place in the "C" race with a time of 16:04.59.

 

In the 1,500-meter seeded race, Jamie McCarthy ran 4:01.40 while Jarod Williams ran 4:09.14.

In the Florida Relays, the throwing events went Coastal's way as Jason Jensen threw a personal-best 196'52" (59.90 meters), taking second place in his section and 10th place overall.

 

Jacob Scheuer also tied a personal-best performance in the 400-meter hurdles good for 26th place in a competitive field. In the 110-meter hurdles, Shane Norris and Kasheem Clifton ran 15.17 and 15.21, respectively. Ryan Edlich raced in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.01.

 

The Chanticleers will continue to participate in both meets tomorrow, with the Florida Relays starting at 11:30 a.m. and the Duke Invitational at 10 a.m.
