The Coastal Carolina men’s track and field team participated in the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday and Saturday Feb. 12-13 in Clemson, S.C.

 

On the first day of competition, the Chanticleers had 11 top-ten finishers and six in the top-five. Highlighting day one was Jacques Watson winning the high jump, clearing 6’.10.25”. Ross Graves placed ninth with a jump of 6’4.25". Continuing success in the field events, Jason Jensen threw for 58’.8” in the weight throw, taking fourth place. In the long jump, Burton Jones grabbed ninth place with a jump of 21’10.75" meters.

 

In the running events, Jack Hutchison took third place in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 8.10. Also placing in the ninth was Kasheem Clifton, who clocked 8.30 in the event. Shane Norris finished in 18th place with a time of 8.52.

 

Corey Jameson qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash and finished in fifth place with a time of 6.87. Ryan Edlich ran a time of 7.03 to finish 14th.

In the one-mile run, Kyle Kling took 10th with a time of 4:21.31. John Heron and Jarod Williams placed 21st and 22nd, respectively.

 

In the 500-meter dash, Stevie Brunson and Jacob Scheuer place third and fourth, respectively. Brunson ran for 1:06.94, while Scheuer followed at 1:07.22. Travis Owens also finished 14th in the event with a time of 1:09.57. In the 300-meter dash, Alex Levy placed eighth with a time of 36.59. Shane Norris and Darren Tymczak finished in 11th and 12th, respectively.

 

In the second day of events, the Chanticleers kept rolling along with three top-10 finishes. The distance medley relay squad was the highlight of the day as the team of Heron, Williams, Tymzcak and Kling took second place just behind Samford with a time of 10:17.51. In the 4x400 meter relay, Graves, Tymczak, Owens and Clifton went 3:38.52 for a 10th-place finish.  

 

The Chanticleers continued in the mid-distance relay events with Levy taking eighth place in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.59. Following Levy, Norris finished in 11th running for a time of 36.96 and in 12th place was Tymczak with a time of 37.22. In the 400-meter dash Shane Norris took 19th finishing 52.58. Brunson also finished 19th in the 800-meter run, running a time of 2:01.62. Scheuer followed Brunson with a time of 2:02.54.

 

 

In the 200 meter, Edlich went 22.66, finishing in 12th, and Levy followed in 13th in 22.76. Hutchison also competed in the event, tying for 15th with a time of 22.93.

 

 

In the field portion of the day, Burton Jones took second in the triple jump with a leap of 47’8.75”. Jensen continued to perform well by throwing 45’8.5” in the shot put, placing 12th and Tyler Swanson had a throw of 42'.8", taking 16th place.

 

 

Men’s track and field team will begin its outdoor season on March 6 in the Battle of the Beaches V in Conway, S.C.
