BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina University men's track and field team competed with a partial squad at the Virginia Tech Invitational Jan. 14-15, in preparation for the 2011 outdoor season.  Freshman Tyler Askew had a strong start with two top-10 finishes.  

Jason Jenson had the highest finish of the Chanticleers, placing second in the weight throw with a 59'10.25' (18.24m) toss.

Askew started the weekend, finishing fifth in the long jump with a 22'8" (6.91m) mark.

In the 60-meter dash, Askew placed sixth with a time of 6.86 while Christopher Lawson was close behind in eighth, crossing the finish line in 6.95.  

Nehemiah Shelley rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Chants, finishing eighth in the triple jump with a 46'6" (14.17m) mark.  

Coastal will send a partial squad to the Sykes-Sabock Challenge, hosted by Penn State Feb. 5.
