Courson enters his first season as an assistant track and field coach at Coastal Carolina University. His primary responsibilities will include coaching the sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers.
Prior to Coastal, Courson worked at East Carolina University for three years, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the track and field program. During his coaching career at ECU he helped coach a USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championship performer in the 400 meters, four USATF Junior National qualifiers (100m, 100 hurdles, 200m and 400m), one NCAA Second Team All-American (400m) and five NCAA outdoor championship qualifiers (400m and 4x400). He also helped coach 13 NCAA Regional qualifiers, six Conference-USA Champions (60m, 60h, 110h, 200m, 400m), one Conference-USA meet record holder (400m), 21 All-Conference-USA performances, one Penn Relays Champion (4x100) and eight ECU school record holders.
Courson received his M.S. from East Carolina University and earned his B.A. from UNC Wilmington, where he was a member of the Seahawk track and field team. He was a four time NCAA East Regional qualifier as a member of the 4x400m relay team, he received three IC4A All-East honors in the 400m and the 4x400m relay, four CAA Conference Championships and three CAA team championships. Courson set school records in the 600m, 4x400m relay, outdoor 4x200m relay and in the 4x400m relay.
