Castellanos Takes Bronze at South American Youth Games
SANTIAGO, Chile - Freshman Juan Castellanos of the Coastal Carolina men’s tennis team won the bronze medal in doubles at the 2017 South American Youth Games this week.
The Bogota, Colombia native entered the event as the fourth-seeded pairing, placing him directly in the quarterfinals. There, he defeated Bolivians Nicolas Doria and Raul Rivero, 6-3, 7-6, to advance to the semifinals. Castellanos was denied a chance at the championship match by Sebastian Baez and Tomas Descarrega, the second-seeded pairing from Argentina.
The loss pitted Castellanos and his partner against the third-seeded Venezuelan pairing of Brandon Perez and Dimitri Badra for third place, and the Colombian duo prevailed 6-1, 7-5 to win the bronze.
The closing ceremony for the Games is set for Sunday, Oct. 8, at Estadio Nacional.
