Men's Tennis Goes 17-5 in the Coastal Carolina Fall Shootout
The Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team went 17-5 in its own Fall Shootout Sept. 13 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. The tournament was limited to one day after rains cancelled the event both Thursday and Friday.
Junior Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) and sophomore Dorian Sovic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazisa (UALR)) both went 2-0 in singles play, while the Chanticleer doubles teams were 7-1. Junior Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and classmate Dimitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201 (Arkansas)) both won a match in the Alpha Singles Flight.
“The guys’ hard work paid off today,” Coastal Carolina Head Coach Chris Powers said. “It was really tough competition on a hot day, but we played pretty solid for a first tournament. We have two weeks to get ready for the North Carolina Tournament and we need to keep building confidence on the practice court.”
Coastal Carolina will compete in the UNC Invitational Sept. 26-28 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
