Men’s and Women’s Tennis Awarded ITA Academic Honors
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Coastal Carolina men’s and women’s tennis teams have been honored as 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams. In addition, the women’s team had all eight of its members recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes, while the men’s team had six student-athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
The Chanticleer women’s tennis program boasted a combined 3.866 GPA to lead all of Coastal’s athletic programs for the second straight year. On the court, the team finished 15-7 overall and placed fifth in its first season of Sun Belt competition. Seniors Romane Delay and Marie Babayan; juniors Natalie Wall, Brooke Campbell and Sara Bondar; and freshmen Alexa Tiefel, Maria Khomchenko and Rylie Cox were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
It is the 19th consecutive year that the women have received ITA All-Academic Team honors.
The Chanticleer men closed the 2016-17 season with a 13-9 overall record while also finishing fifth in their first season of Sun Belt competition. The ITA Scholar-Athletes on the men’s side consisted of seniors Sebastian Schneider and Stefan Jakubov; junior Francesco Migliano; sophomore Luiz Faria; and freshmen Francesco Cori Gamero and Zak Talic.
The Chanticleer men have now received ITA All-Academic Team honors in 12 of the last 13 years.
