2011 ITA All-Academic Team honors and ITA Scholar-Athletes

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team, as well as three individuals, were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Chanticleers earned the ITA All-Academic Team honors, while Matt Gordon, Yusuke Kusuda and Dorian Sovic earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status.

To earn ITA All-Academic Team honors, a program must have team cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
Coastal's men's tennis team owns a 3.4 team GPA and was one of 71 teams in Division I to earn the honor.

Coastal Carolina has earned the team award in each of head coach Chris Powers' eight years with the Chanticleers and a total of 10 consecutive years overall.

Individually, Gordon carries a 3.683 GPA in business, Kusuda has a 3.868 cumulative GPA in business and Sovic has a 3.698 career GAP in computer science. On the court, Gordon was named All-Big South in both singles and doubles. Kusuda, who was named to the Big South All-Academic team, was the Big South No. 2 singles flight champion, while Sovic was the Big South No. 6 singles flight champion.

"I take an enormous amount of pride in winning this award on an annual basis," Powers said. "I feel that the best culture for a successful program needs to show results on and off the court. I see the hard work that these guys put in on a daily basis and I never take these efforts for granted. We will have a lot of new guys coming in this year, and I look to them to carry this important torch this season and beyond."
