Men's Tennis, Velickovic Receive ITA Regional Rankings
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team finished 10th in the Carolina Region as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its final rankings for the 2016 season on Wednesday. In addition, junior Vuk Velickovic landed among the region's top-20 singles players, finishing at #19.
It is the third time in the past four seasons that the Chanticleers have closed the year with a regional ranking, following a program-best ranking of #8 in 2015 and another #10 ranking in 2013.
"This is a nice way to complete the 2015-16 season," said Coastal head coach Chris Powers. "It was an incredible year on and off the court. Our guys did everything I could ask from a team, and I'm happy to see them recognized in such a competitive region.
Coastal closed 2016 with a program-best 21-4 overall record -- including a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play -- while capturing the Big South Conference's regular season and tournament championships. The Chants also made their second appearance in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship where they faced #6 Wake Forest in the opening round.
Velickovic was a large reason for the Chants' success, posting a team-leading 20 victories while losing just four matches. Velickovic finished with a 15-2 record on the second court, and added a 5-2 mark on the first court to earn first team All-Big South singles honors.
