No. 4 Men's Tennis Falls 4-0 to Top-Seeded Radford in Big South Semifinals

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Fourth-seeded Coastal Carolina fell to top-seeded Radford 4-0 in the Big South Conference Tournament semifinals Friday, April 18 at the Winthrop Memorial Courts.

Coastal's only victory of the day came at No. 3 doubles, but Radford won at both the No. 1 and the No. 2 slots in order to win the doubles point. Junior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) and freshman John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) downed James Lloyd and Paul Boslet 8-5 in the No. 3 slot. Martin Sayer and Zack Watson defeated sophomores Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Mehdi Benhammous and Ivan Salec won 8-5 over senior David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) and sophomore Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201 (Arkansas)) at the No. 2 flight.

In the singles competition, Radford posted wins at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 slots. Salec defeated Ramos 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Benhammous came away with the 6-0, 6-2 victory over Tzvetkov at the No. 4 slot, while Watson defeated Withers 6-0, 6-3.
