Charlotte, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's Yusuke Kusuda, Garik Yedigarian, Matias Di Pasquale, Leo Christofides, John Karle and Ted Nilsson all received Big South honors at the annual tennis awards banquet that followed Wednesday's first round of the 2013 Big South Tournament. Additionally, head coach Chris Powers was named the 2013 Big South Coach of the Year.

Kusuda, a senior, was the most decorated Chanticleer at the end of the banquet, having been voted to the All-Conference Singles Team, named the No. 3 doubles flight winner along with his partner Nilsson and earning a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team. Kusuda posted a 6-2 Conference record in singles play this season, including a 6-1 mark at No. 2 singles. His All-Conference Singles honor marks the third consecutive year he has received this award. It is also the second time that Kusuda, a finance major with a 3.715 GPA, has been named to the Big South All-Academic team.

Yedigarian, a sophomore, was named the No. 3 singles flight winner in addition to being voted to the All-Conference Singles team.   Yedigarian finished the regular season with a team-best 13-4 overall singles record while posting a perfect 8-0 record in Conference play. The New York, N.Y. native won eight straight singles matches from March 3-29, finishing the season with an 11-3 record at No. 3. The All-Conference Singles honor is the first of his Coastal career.

Di Pasquale was named the No. 4 singles flight winner, the second straight year that he has achieved this feat. The senior went 10-7 in singles competition in the 2013 season, winning six Big South matches and finishing 4-3 at No. 4.

Junior Leo Christofides and senior John Karle were named the co-winners of the No. 2 doubles flight along with Presbyterian's Rafael Berghaus and Grayson Mills. The Coastal pair posted an impressive 12-4 overall record, going 7-3 at No. 2, and 5-1 at No. 3. Christofides and Karle also teamed up to win five Big South matches.

Junior Ted Nilsson and doubles partner Kusuda were the No. 3 doubles flight winners. The Coastal duo finished the regular season with an 11-6 overall record, going 10-1 at No. 3 and picking up six Big South Conference wins.

Head coach Chris Powers was named the 2013 Big South Coach of the Year after leading Coastal to its best Conference season of his career. Under Powers' direction, the Chants were named the Big South regular season champions after finishing 12-5 overall with an 8-0 Big South record. The perfect Conference mark earned Coastal the top seed in the 2013 Big South tournament. This is Powers' first Coach of the Year recognition in his nine-year tenure as the Chanticleers' skipper.

The top-seeded Chants begin postseason play with a quarterfinal match against No. 8 UNC Asheville on Thursday morning at 8 a.m. Check back to GoCCUSports.com in the coming days to get full results and recaps of Big South tournament action.
